Prince George’s County Continues Cooling Centers for Extreme Heat (July 7th & July 8th)

Updated Locations and Hours of Operation

Upper Marlboro, MD – The Prince George’s County Office of Emergency Management will resume operations of its cooling centers over the weekend.  Below is a listing of cooling centers available to residents.  Please note the hours of operation.  
Cooling Centers for Senior Citizens on Saturday, July 7th from 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

•    Camp Springs Senior Activity Center, 6420 Allentown Road, Camp Springs
•     Laurel-Beltsville Senior Center, 7120 Contee Road, Laurel 
(Both facilities are closed on Sunday. Seniors are encouraged to utilized the centers listed below)

Cooling Centers open for the General Public at the following County locations and hours:
Saturday, July 7th from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.; Sunday, July 8th from 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.  
•         Rollingcrest-Chillum Community Center, 6120 Sargent Road, Chillum  
•         Suitland Community Center, 5600 Regency Lane, Forestville 
•         Oakcrest Community Center, 1300 Capitol Heights Boulevard, Capitol Heights
•         Fairland Sports and Aquatics Center, 13820 and 13950 Old Gunpowder Road, Laurel
•         Palmer Park Community Center, 7720 Barlowe Road, Landover
County residents should also be mindful of public pools, libraries, shopping centers, malls and community centers to keep cool and escape the heat.  

The Prince George’s County Department of Family Services has been regularly communicating with all senior citizen, assisted living centers, and nursing homes in the County.  Residents are encouraged to check on the elderly, neighbors, family members and those who may have special needs.  Also, please pay close attention to pets to ensure that they don’t fall victim to the heat.

Extreme weather events are also a reminder that Prince George’s County offers emergency text and email alerts.  Residents are encouraged to sign up for Notify Me Prince George’s Alerts.
